Current grants
Regional Airport DevelopmentThis grant is provided to assist local governments upgrade airports in regional areas of Queensland. Details on this grant can be obtained from the Regional Airport Development Scheme (PDF**, 430KB)overview sheet.
School Bus Upgrade Scheme (SchoolBUS)
This grant helps accelerate the introduction of rollover-compliant buses into the Queensland school bus fleet. It is for school bus operators contracted to Department of Transport and Main Roads . This assists with the purchase of new buses or buses that are up to ten years old.
Safe Walking and Pedalling Program
Grants of up to A$10 000 are available to assist schools develop 'safe walking and pedalling' programs for students, operating within 3.2 km of the school. Funding will be given for behavioural, educational and engineering road safety interventions. Applications also require the participation of school staff, children and parents/carers.
For amounts exceeding A$10 000 applications must be lodged under the Safe School Travel (SafeST) Subsidy Scheme.

Safe School Travel (SafeST) Subsidy Scheme
The SafeST subsidy scheme is funded from the State Roads Program and provides a 50/50 subsidy to Queensland local governments for approved school transport-related infrastructure works. This might include school zones, crossing facilities, pick-up and set-down areas, pedestrian refuge islands, bike facilities and other traffic management devices.
Safe School Bus Routes Program
The Safe School Bus Routes Program aims to improve the safety of school bus routes by reviewing selected school bus routes. Program initiatives to improve safety include widening and improving visibility around curves, construction of bus stops and the installation of bus route signage.
School Transport Assistance Scheme
The School Transport Assistance Scheme helps students travel to and from school if their access to education facilities is impeded by distance, disability, or financial disadvantage. The scheme also helps students from areas designated as drought-declared. Eligible families receive assistance with rail transport, kilometre-based school services (bus or ferry), fares-based school services (bus or ferry), conveyance allowance, and safety-net assistance.
Community Road Safety Activity Fund
This fund provides funding for the purchase of small items of equipment and services that contribute directly to improving road safety in local communities. Contact your local Road Safety Advisor.
